Parliament Passes Animal Feeds Bill 2023
New Committee to Regulate Production
The House has passed the Animal Feeds Bill 2023, which establishes a committee to regulate the production of animal feeds. The bill seeks to provide a legislative framework for the operationalization of animal feeds in Uganda.
Significant Impact on Production Costs
Animal feeds account for 70% of the production costs for livestock farmers. As such, the bill is expected to have a significant impact on the cost of animal products such as meat and milk.
Aimable Mbarushimana, the Chairperson of the Uganda Animal Feeds Manufacturers Association, welcomed the passage of the bill. He stated that it will create a more structured and transparent animal feeds industry in the country.
