Death of Saul

Saul was defeated by the Philistines on Mount Gilboa. His sons, Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua were also killed in the battle. Saul fell on his sword to avoid being captured by the Philistines. His body was hung on the walls of Bethshan. The Philistines then took the armor of Saul and sent it to the temple of their god Dagon.

The news of Saul's death spread throughout Israel. The people of Jabesh-Gilead, who had been helped by Saul in the past, went to Bethshan and took down his body. They burned it and buried the bones under a tamarisk tree. They then fasted for seven days.

Saul's death marked the end of an era in Israel. He was the first king of Israel, and his reign had been marked by both victory and defeat. His death left a void that would be difficult to fill.
