Modern Cruise Ships: Bigger Than the Titanic

Comparison of Cruise Ship Size Over Time

Today's cruise ships continue to grow in size, far outpacing the rate of growth in building height. In 1912, the tallest building was only 200 feet. Today, modern cruise ships are an average of 20 feet longer than the Titanic and twice as tall. The average Royal Caribbean cruise ship is 325 meters long, significantly larger than the Titanic's 269 meters.

Modern Cruise Ships vs. the Titanic

Modern cruise ships are indeed larger than the Titanic. On average, they have a draft of about 20 feet (6 meters), which is less than the Titanic's 34 feet (10 meters). However, smaller cruise ships, such as the Empress of the Seas, are only slightly larger than the Titanic, with a length of 270 meters.
