SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea said Saturday it tested a super-large cruise missile warhead, marking a significant advancement in its weapons program.

The test, conducted on Saturday, was the second of its kind in recent months. North Korean state media released images purported to show the new cruise missile warhead during a recent test launch.

The development of a super-large cruise missile warhead could significantly increase North Korea's military capabilities in terms of precision and destructive power.

North Korea has been rapidly developing its missile arsenal in recent years, despite international sanctions and pressure. The country is believed to possess a wide range of ballistic missiles, including intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.

The latest test comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula following North Korea's recent missile launches and the redeployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier to the region.
