Motorcycling in Victoria: Navigating Restrictions as a Learner and License Holder
Learner Restrictions
As a learner motorcyclist in Victoria, you must adhere to specific restrictions outlined by the Victorian Driver Licensing Authority (VicRoads).
These restrictions include:
- Riding only motorbikes that meet the “Learner Approved Motorcycle” (LAM) criteria
- Limiting passenger capacity to one pillion passenger over the age of 18
- Being accompanied by a licensed supervisor when riding outside a 25km radius of your home address
License Holder Restrictions
Upon obtaining a Victorian motorcycle license, certain restrictions still apply:
- Riders with an interstate or overseas license for less than 12 months must complete a VicRoads conversion test
- Riders who have been licensed for less than three years are subject to a Provisional Rider License (PRL), which imposes additional restrictions
- Riders may face additional restrictions based on the type of motorcycle they possess
