Methacrylate in Nail Products: Warning Issued by Dermatologists

High Risk for Nail Technicians

The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) has issued a warning about the potential health risks associated with methacrylate chemicals, which are commonly found in ultraviolet-curing nail products. These chemicals can cause a condition known as allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in individuals with sensitive skin.

Increased Exposure for Nail Technicians

Nail technicians are at an increased risk of developing ACD due to their frequent exposure to methacrylate-based gel nail products and other allergens in the salon environment. The BAD's analysis of 13 dermatology units last year revealed a high prevalence of ACD among nail technicians.
