Acidosis and Alkalosis: Understanding pH Imbalances
What is Acidosis and Alkalosis?
Acidosis and alkalosis are conditions that occur when the pH balance of the body is disrupted, leading to an accumulation or loss of acid and/or alkali.
Symptoms
The symptoms of a pH imbalance depend on the type of imbalance experienced:
- Acidosis: Lower blood pH, causing rapid breathing, fatigue, confusion, and nausea.
- Alkalosis: Higher blood pH, resulting in slow breathing, tingling sensations, muscle twitching, and seizures.
