Measles Exposure Alert for Southern California Travelers

Recent LAX Case Raises Concerns

Orange County Impacted

A traveler infected with measles flew from London to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) before traveling to Orange County, prompting health officials to issue an exposure alert for recent travelers in the area.

The case of measles was confirmed in a non-Los Angeles County resident who visited LAX on July 31, 2024. Health officials are investigating possible exposures at the airport and in Orange County.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can be spread through contact with respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms of measles include fever, rash, runny nose, cough, and red, watery eyes.

Officials are urging anyone who believes they may have been exposed to measles to contact their healthcare provider immediately. Vaccination is the best way to prevent measles, and health officials recommend that all travelers be up-to-date on their vaccinations.
