Oropouche Virus: First Deaths Recorded as Illness Surges
Health Chiefs Warn of Obscure Illness
Oropouche Virus Kills Two in Brazil
Health officials have issued a warning about an obscure mosquito-borne illness that has claimed its first victims. The Oropouche virus, previously little-known, has caused the deaths of two women in Brazil.
Both victims were under 30 years old and had no history of serious health conditions. However, they both developed symptoms similar to those of dengue fever, including fever, headache, muscle aches, and nausea.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health has confirmed the deaths as being caused by Oropouche fever, which is spread by the bites of infected midges and mosquitoes.
