There have been 13 outbreaks of measles in the United States in 2024, with 110 confirmed cases. The majority of these cases have occurred in unvaccinated individuals.
Measles outbreaks are happening in every region of the United States. The largest outbreak is currently occurring in Ohio, with over 50 confirmed cases.
Measles is a preventable disease. The measles vaccine is safe and effective. It is recommended that all children receive two doses of the measles vaccine, one at 12-15 months of age and one at 4-6 years of age.
If You Think You May Have Measles
If you think you may have measles, it is important to see a doctor right away. Measles is contagious for four days before and four days after the rash appears.
There is no specific treatment for measles. Treatment is supportive and includes rest, fluids, and pain relievers.
