MRI Scans for Concussion — Study indicates they can improve prognosis
A New Study
A new study indicates that advanced MRI scans can improve the prognosis for concussion patients. In a study published today in eClinicalMedicine, Dr. Newcombe and his colleagues show that an advanced type of MRI called diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can detect brain damage that is invisible to traditional CT scans.
Better Prognosis
This damage can lead to long-term problems such as memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and depression. However, the study found that patients who received DTI scans had a better prognosis than those who did not. They were more likely to recover from their symptoms and return to their normal activities.
