Bavarian Nordic Secures Massive Order for Monkeypox Vaccine

1568m Contract to Replenish US Stockpile

Bavarian Nordic, a Danish vaccine manufacturer, has received a significant order worth 1568m from the US Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) for the production of JYNNEOS, its smallpox and monkeypox vaccine. The order will help replenish the US government's inventory of bulk vaccine, ensuring sufficient supplies for future manufacturing and distribution.

Approval for Smallpox and Monkeypox Prevention

JYNNEOS is the only vaccine approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for both smallpox and monkeypox prevention in adults aged 18 years and older. The vaccine is non-replicating, meaning it does not contain live viruses and therefore poses minimal risk to recipients.

The recent outbreak of monkeypox has highlighted the importance of maintaining adequate vaccine stockpiles to respond to potential health emergencies. This order will significantly boost the US government's preparedness for future outbreaks.
