Contaminated Blood Scandal: Compensation Concerns as Report Finds Thousands Infected
New Report Reveals Damning Findings
A damning report into the contaminated blood scandal has found that as many as 30000 people were infected with HIV and hepatitis. The scandal involved thousands of people around the world who were given transfusions or injections of contaminated blood or blood products.
Families Face Compensation Concerns
Campaigners have warned that hundreds of families affected by the scandal could be left without compensation due to a lack of medical records. The daughter of one man believed to be affected by the scandal said the discovery of his medical records was “the greatest gift”.
July Government Announcement
In July, the government announced that from October, the estates of those who died as a result of the infected blood would be eligible for compensation. However, there are concerns that many families will be unable to access this compensation due to the lack of medical records.
