Key Figures Join the Reds' Coaching Team

Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the arrival of three new members to manager Arne Slot's backroom staff.

Meet the New Faces

  • Julian Ward: Former Sporting Director at RB Leipzig, Ward will serve as Liverpool's new Sporting Director.
  • Pepijn Lijnders: Joins Liverpool from Dutch club NEC Nijmegen, where he was the Head Coach, and will take on the role of Assistant Manager.
  • Vitor Matos: Former Goalkeeping Coach at Manchester City, Matos will assume the same position at Liverpool.

These appointments mark the beginning of Slot's efforts to reshape Liverpool's coaching staff, following his arrival from Feyenoord in June 2023.

Experienced Additions

Each of the new staff members boasts a wealth of experience in their respective fields:

  • Ward has a strong track record in player recruitment and development, having played a key role in RB Leipzig's rise to prominence.
  • Lijnders is a highly-rated coach who has worked alongside Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and Ajax.
  • Matos is credited with developing some of the world's top goalkeepers, including Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

Their expertise is expected to bolster Liverpool's technical capabilities and help the team compete at the highest level.

Slot's Vision

Slot has stated his intention to create a “progressive, attacking team” at Liverpool, and these appointments appear to align with that vision.

With the new backroom staff in place, Slot will now turn his attention to player recruitment and preparing for the upcoming season.
