Chicago Cubs Designate Veteran Reliever Héctor Neris for Assignment
Neris Released, Neely Promoted
The Chicago Cubs have designated veteran reliever Héctor Neris for assignment and promoted right-hander Jack Neely from Triple-A Iowa, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
Neris, 35, had a 6.88 ERA in 55 appearances for the Cubs in 2022. He had been with the team since 2017 and was a key part of their 2016 World Series championship team.
Neely Promoted from Minors
Neely, 26, has a 3.91 ERA in 44 appearances for Iowa this season.
The Cubs are hoping that Neely can provide a boost to their bullpen, which has struggled this season.
The Cubs are now 45-45 on the season and are in fourth place in the NL Central.
