In an extraordinary display of community support, donations for former Gopher hockey player Casey O'Brien have surpassed $250,000 in just 24 hours.
O'Brien, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2021, has touched countless lives both on and off the ice. His courageous battle against the debilitating disease has inspired an outpouring of love and support from the Minnesota community and beyond.
The initial goal of the fundraiser was to raise $100,000 to help cover medical expenses and support O'Brien and his family. However, the response has been overwhelming, with donations continuing to pour in from individuals, organizations, and businesses.

About Casey O'Brien
Casey O'Brien was a standout hockey player at the University of Minnesota from 1998 to 2002. He helped lead the Gophers to two national championships and was named an All-American in 2002.
After graduating from college, O'Brien played professionally in Europe and North America. He retired from hockey in 2010 and returned to Minnesota, where he worked as a youth hockey coach and motivational speaker.
In 2021, O'Brien was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurological disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. Despite the challenges posed by ALS, O'Brien remains an inspiration to his family, friends, and community.
