Jarquez Hunter's 34-Yard Touchdown Kickstarts Auburn's Season

Hunter's Field Goal Gives Tigers Early Lead

Jarquez Hunter's 34-yard field goal in the first quarter marked Auburn's first points of the 2023 season. The kick came after a 10-play, 58-yard drive by the Tigers, giving them an early 3-0 lead over Mercer.

Hunter a Reliable Kicker for Auburn

Hunter, a sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, has been a reliable kicker for Auburn since joining the team in 2022. Last season, he converted 14 of 18 field goal attempts and all 38 extra point tries.

In addition to his kicking prowess, Hunter also serves as Auburn's punter. He averaged 42.3 yards per punt in 2022, with 19 punts landing inside the 20-yard line.

Auburn Looks for Improved Offensive Performance

While Hunter's field goal gave Auburn the early lead, the Tigers' offense struggled to find consistency throughout the game. Quarterback Robby Ashford completed just 15 of 33 passes for 166 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Auburn will look to improve its offensive performance in its next game against San Jose State on September 9th.
