Asteroid Hits Atmosphere Over the Philippines

A near-Earth object has hit the Earth's atmosphere over the Philippines. Reports are just coming in and details are scarce, but here is what we know so far:
At approximately 1:00 AM local time, an asteroid entered the Earth's atmosphere over the Sulu Sea, near the island of Palawan. The asteroid was about the size of a small car and was traveling at a speed of about 17 kilometers per second.
The asteroid exploded in the atmosphere, creating a bright flash of light that was visible for miles around. The explosion also produced a shockwave that shook buildings and caused windows to shatter.
