Tokyo Native to Get Chance to Play in NBA Development League
Tominaga Will Join Four Other Japanese Players in the G League
Yuta Tominaga, a 24-year-old forward from Tokyo, Japan, has signed a contract to play for the G League United, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Tominaga is the fifth Japanese player to sign with a G League team this season, joining Yudai Baba (South Bay Lakers), Kai Sotto (Erie BayHawks), Takuma Sato (Salt Lake City Stars), and Ryusei Shinoyama (Greensboro Swarm).
Tominaga played college basketball at the University of Nebraska from 2017 to 2021. He was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and helped lead the Cornhuskers to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.
After graduating from Nebraska, Tominaga played professionally in Japan for the Akita Northern Happinets of the B.League. He averaged 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in the 2021-22 season.
Tominaga is a skilled scorer and rebounder with a good basketball IQ. He is also a versatile defender who can guard multiple positions.
The G League United will begin their season on November 4th. They will play their home games at the Mayo Clinic Square in Rochester, Minnesota.
