Ex-A's Owner Wally Haas Blasts John Fisher, Calls Moving Team 'Unforgivable'
Former A's majority owner Wally Haas has come out swinging against current owner John Fisher, calling his decision to move the team to Las Vegas “unforgivable.”
Haas, who owned the A's from 1981 to 1995, said in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that he was “deeply disappointed” by Fisher's decision to move the team.
In a statement released through his spokesman, Fisher said he understands that Haas is disappointed but that he believes the move to Las Vegas is in the best interests of the team and its fans.
Haas, however, is not convinced. He said that he believes Fisher is only moving the team to Las Vegas because he wants to make more money. He also questioned Fisher's commitment to the Bay Area, pointing out that he has never lived in the area and has rarely attended A's games.
Haas's comments come as the A's are preparing to move to Las Vegas in 2024. The team is currently playing its final season at the Oakland Coliseum.
The move to Las Vegas has been controversial, with many fans opposed to the team leaving the Bay Area. Haas's comments are sure to add fuel to the fire.
It remains to be seen whether Fisher will be able to win back the support of fans like Haas. But one thing is for sure: the A's move to Las Vegas is going to be a major story in the sports world for years to come.
