Zhuhai Open: Nishioka books spot in second round

Japanese star cruises past Sweeny to continue impressive form

Yoshihito Nishioka secured his place in the second round of the Zhuhai Open with a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 victory over American qualifier Tim Sweeny on Tuesday.

The Japanese fourth seed, who won his maiden ATP title in Seoul last month, was in impressive form as he broke Sweeny's serve four times to advance in just 70 minutes.

Nishioka looking to continue strong run

Nishioka will next face either Chinese wildcard Wu Yibing or Australia's Alexei Popyrin in the second round.

The 27-year-old is looking to continue his strong run of form in Zhuhai, having reached the semi-finals of the Shenzhen Open last week.

Nishioka is currently ranked 36th in the world and is hoping to break into the top 30 for the first time in his career.

The Zhuhai Open is an ATP 250 tournament that is being held for the first time this year.

The tournament is taking place on hard courts at the Hengqin Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China.

The total prize money for the tournament is $534,555.

The winner of the tournament will receive $92,805 and 250 ATP ranking points.

The runner-up will receive $53,920 and 150 ATP ranking points.

The Zhuhai Open is the last ATP tournament of the 2023 season.
