Bologna held by 10-man Atalanta in Serie A opener
Bologna and Atalanta played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in the opening match of the 2023/24 Serie A season.
The hosts started the brighter of the two sides and had the best chance of the first half when Musa Barrow hit the post from close range. Atalanta grew into the game as the half wore on and had a great chance to take the lead when Rasmus Hojlund was denied by Lukasz Skorupski.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the second half when Merih Demiral was sent off for a second yellow card. Bologna pushed for a winner but could not find a way past the resolute Atalanta defence.
The result leaves Bologna and Atalanta with a point each after the opening weekend of the Serie A season.

Bologna coach Thiago Motta was happy with his team's performance, despite the draw.
“I think we played a good game,” he said. “We created chances and we were unlucky not to win. But I'm happy with the way the team played and I'm confident that we can have a good season.”
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was also pleased with his team's performance, despite the red card.
“I think we played a good game,” he said. “We were unlucky to concede a penalty but we came back well and I'm happy with the point.”
