Netflix is No Longer Available on This Device

What Devices Are Affected?

The change does not affect all streaming devices. Netflix will stop working on devices that use the Silverlight streaming software. These devices include older game consoles, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes. Most newer devices, such as smart TVs and streaming sticks, will not be affected because they use different streaming technology.

When Will the Change Take Place?

The change will take place on December 1, 2021. After that date, Netflix will no longer be available on devices that use Silverlight.

Why is Netflix Making This Change?

Netflix says on its website that the change is being made to “improve the quality of your streaming experience.” The company says that Silverlight is no longer supported by Microsoft and that the newer technology used by most devices provides a better viewing experience.

What Can I Do If My Device Is Affected?

If your device is affected, you will need to upgrade to a new device in order to continue using Netflix. You can find a list of compatible devices on the Netflix website. Netflix also recommends older devices be recycled after they become obsolete.

Is There Anything Else I Should Know?

In addition to the devices mentioned above, Netflix will also no longer be available on Windows Phone 8.1 devices and older versions of Internet Explorer. If you use one of these devices, you will need to upgrade to a newer device or use a different browser. If you do not upgrade, you may still use Netflix content on a web browser, by using your mobile device, or a compatible device.
