Humble Beginnings

Barack Hussein Obama II was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents, Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham, were both students at the University of Hawaii; his father was from Kenya, and his mother was from Kansas.

Obama's childhood was marked by instability and frequent moves. His parents divorced when he was two years old, and he spent much of his early childhood in Indonesia with his mother and Indonesian stepfather.

Education and Career

Obama returned to Hawaii to attend Punahou School, a prestigious private school. He excelled academically and was a star basketball player. After graduating from high school, Obama attended Occidental College in Los Angeles and then transferred to Columbia University in New York City.

After graduating from Columbia, Obama worked as a community organizer in Chicago. He later attended Harvard Law School, where he served as the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.

Political Career

Obama's political career began in 1996 when he was elected to the Illinois State Senate. He served in the Senate for eight years, during which time he passed legislation on issues such as healthcare, education, and criminal justice.

In 2004, Obama was elected to the United States Senate. He quickly became a rising star in the Democratic Party, and in 2008, he was elected president of the United States.

Presidency

Obama's presidency was marked by both significant achievements and challenges. He oversaw the passage of the Affordable Care Act, which provided health insurance to millions of Americans who previously lacked it.

Obama also ended the war in Iraq and authorized the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. However, he faced criticism for his handling of the economy and for his use of drones in the fight against terrorism.

Obama left office in 2017 with high approval ratings. He has since founded the Obama Foundation, which works to support young leaders around the world.
