Raphinha Is Not Pleased With Nico Williams’ Barcelona Shirt
Barcelona winger Raphinha has criticized teammate Nico Williams for wearing a Real Madrid shirt while celebrating his recent call-up to the Spanish national team.
The shirt had been given to Williams by his brother Inaki, who is a forward for Real Madrid’s fierce rivals Athletic Bilbao.
The Brazil international commented on the incident while speaking to the reporters during his side’s pre-season tour of the United States.
“I saw the photo, and I didn’t like it,” Raphinha said. “Nico is a great player with a bright future, and this photo does nothing to help his reputation. It was unfair to Barcelona and the fans, and it was especially unfair to Nico himself.
“I’m sure he didn’t mean any harm, but this photo will cast a shadow over his achievement of being called up to the Spanish squad. He needs to learn from this mistake and be more careful in the future. Nico is a good kid with a good heart, and I’m sure he will learn from this.
“I think it’s important for all of us to understand the responsibility that comes with playing for Barcelona. We are a symbol of the city, and people all over the world look up to us. We need to set a good example, both on and off the field.
“I’m sure Nico will learn from this experience and become a better player for it.”
