The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 International series against South Africa, with three uncapped players earning their maiden call-ups. The series will comprise of five matches, scheduled to be played from June 9 to June 19.
The squad is headlined by experienced campaigners like captain Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, and star batter Virat Kohli. However, the inclusion of three exciting young talents has grabbed the attention of cricket fans.
Fresh Faces in the Squad
- Arshdeep Singh: The left-arm pacer has impressed with his performances for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and India A.
- Umran Malik: The speedster from Jammu and Kashmir has been turning heads with his raw pace and has also represented India A.
- Ruturaj Gaikwad: The right-handed batter has been in sublime form for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, earning him a maiden call-up to the national team.
Experienced Players Provide Stability
While the debutants will bring fresh energy to the team, the experienced members of the squad will provide stability and guidance. Skipper Rohit Sharma, who recently led India to a 2-0 Test series win over Sri Lanka, will be keen to continue his winning ways in the shorter format.
KL Rahul, who missed the Sri Lanka series due to injury, will be eager to prove his fitness and form ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
Virat Kohli, who stepped down as India's Test captain after the South Africa tour, will be determined to rediscover his batting form in the T20 format.
