Cornell Strikes Twice in 2nd Period for Victory

No. 12/13 Harvard Women's Hockey fell 2-0 to No. 11/12 Cornell in the Ice Breaker Tournament opener at Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Saturday (Oct. 29).

Cornell (3-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey) scored twice in the second period to earn the victory, while Harvard (1-2-0, 1-1-0) was unable to find the back of the net.

The Crimson had a 38-26 advantage in shots on goal and a 33-24 edge in the faceoff circle.

Cornell goalie Sadie Keller stopped all 38 shots she faced, while Harvard netminder Lindsay Reed made 24 saves.

The Big Red opened the scoring at 4:54 of the second period. After Harvard turned the puck over in the neutral zone, Cornell's Izzy Daniel broke in on a 2-on-1 and fed Kaitlyn Chan for a one-timer to make it 1-0. Cornell extended its lead just over five minutes later when Daniel fired a shot past Reed from the slot.

The Crimson pulled Reed for the extra attacker with just over two minutes remaining, but were unable to score.

Harvard will wrap up the Ice Breaker Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 30) against No. 5 Colgate at 4 p.m.
