Ohio State football: Day looking for players to step up in wake of injuries
Buckeyes lose two key players to season-ending injuries
Ohio State football coach Ryan Day is looking for players to step up in the wake of two season-ending injuries. “We've lost two really good players,” Day said. “But we have a lot of guys who are ready to play.” The Buckeyes lost starting safety Josh Proctor to a broken leg in the season opener against Minnesota. They also lost starting cornerback Sevyn Banks to a shoulder injury in the second game of the season against Oregon. “Those are two big losses,” Day said. “But we have a lot of depth on our roster. We're going to need some guys to step up and make plays.” Day said he is confident that the Buckeyes have the players to overcome the injuries. “We have a lot of talent on this team,” Day said. “We just need to find the right guys to put in the right places.” The Buckeyes will be back in action on Saturday when they host Tulsa.
Day calls on young players to step up
With two key players out for the season, Ohio State coach Ryan Day is calling on his young players to step up. “We're going to need some young guys to play,” Day said. “We have a lot of talented players on our roster, but they need to be ready to play.” Day said he is confident that his young players are up to the challenge. “I believe in our young players,” Day said. “They're talented and they're hungry. I know they're going to be ready to play.” The Buckeyes have a number of young players who could see increased playing time in the wake of the injuries to Proctor and Banks. Some of the young players who could step up for the Buckeyes include: * Safety Kourt Williams * Cornerback Denzel Burke * Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg * Defensive end Jack Sawyer These are just a few of the young players who could see increased playing time for the Buckeyes. Day said he is confident that these players are ready to step up and help the team win.
Buckeyes still have high expectations for the season
Despite the injuries to Proctor and Banks, the Buckeyes still have high expectations for the season. “We have a lot of talent on this team,” Day said. “We're still one of the best teams in the country.” The Buckeyes are ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll and No. 4 in the Coaches Poll. They have a talented roster and a lot of experience. The Buckeyes are scheduled to play a tough schedule this season, but they are confident that they can overcome the injuries and win the Big Ten Championship and make a run at the College Football Playoff. “We know we have a lot of work to do,” Day said. “But we're excited about the challenge.”
