Jagoba Aims for First Home Hat-Trick at Son Moix

A Beautiful Love

Jagoba Arrasate was the architect of Osasuna's promotion to the First Division two years ago. The man from Berriatua is now two points away from Europa after a trajectory that will be remembered in the history of the Navarrese club. Arrasate is the coach who has managed the most matches with Osasuna and the one who has achieved the most victories. On Sunday (9 pm), he will face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu with one big objective in mind: to become the first Osasuna coach to beat Real Madrid in Chamartín in the 21st century.

The Longing for a Home Hat-Trick

The rojillo coach has not yet managed to win at the Bernabéu, despite the fact that he has visited the stadium on two occasions, losing 2-0 in 2020 and 1-0 last season. In fact, Jagoba has never won away at any of the big three, after losing to Barcelona (4-0) and drawing with Atlético de Madrid (0-0). This Sunday, he will have a new opportunity to break the curse against one of the greats, in what will be his third visit to the Bernabéu.

Osasuna have not won at the Bernabéu since May 5, 1991, when they won 0-1 with a goal from Martín Domínguez. Since then, they have played 10 times at the Madrid stadium, losing nine times and drawing once. Arrasate will try to end this negative streak on Sunday and, incidentally, become the first Osasuna coach to score three goals at home in the 21st century. The last to achieve this feat was Miguel Ángel Lotina, who won 3-2 at the Bernabéu in the 2004-05 season with goals from Valdo, Aloisi and Milosevic.

Should he achieve a famous victory, Arrasate would become the fourth Osasuna coach to beat Real Madrid in the Bernabéu in the club's history. The previous three were: Patxi Irigibel (1-2, 1970-71), José Antonio Irulegui (0-2, 1981-82), and Lotina (2-3, 2004-05).

Jagoba knows that the task will be tough, but he is confident in his team's chances. “We are going to the Bernabéu with the intention of winning,” said the Basque coach. “We know that it will be difficult, but we are prepared to compete and give everything we have on the pitch.”
