A fire broke out in the College Area neighborhood of San Diego on Monday afternoon, forcing evacuations and road closures.

The fire started around 4:30 p.m. in a vacant lot at the corner of Fairmount Avenue and Montezuma Road.

The fire quickly spread to a nearby apartment building, causing significant damage.

The fire department responded quickly and was able to contain the blaze to the one building.

No injuries were reported.

However, several residents of the apartment building were displaced.

The Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fairmount Avenue is closed between Montezuma Road and El Cajon Boulevard.

Montezuma Road is closed between 54th Street and College Avenue.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
