Italian Serie A Roundup: Udinese, Venezia Continue Impressive Starts
Udinese Climb to Fifth Place
Udinese Calcio continued their impressive start to the 2022-23 Serie A season with a 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona on Saturday. The win moved Udinese up to fifth place in the table, just three points behind leaders Atalanta. Udinese took the lead in the first half through a goal from Isaac Success, and they doubled their advantage in the second half through Destiny Udogie. Verona pulled a goal back late on through Thomas Henry, but it was not enough to prevent Udinese from claiming all three points.
Udinese’s victory was their fourth in their last five league matches, and they are now unbeaten in their last six. The Bianconeri have been one of the surprise packages of the season so far, and they will be looking to continue their good form when they face Lazio next weekend.
Venezia Extend Unbeaten Run
Venezia FC extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a 1-1 draw against Spezia on Sunday. The newly-promoted side took the lead in the first half through a goal from Mattia Aramu, but Spezia equalized in the second half through Simone Bastoni. The draw leaves Venezia in 14th place in the table, six points clear of the relegation zone.
Venezia’s unbeaten run has been a welcome boost for the club, who were widely expected to struggle this season. The Lagunari have shown great spirit and determination in recent weeks, and they will be looking to continue their good form when they face Sassuolo next weekend.
