Pitt programs prepare for ACC championships while other look to finish and start strong
Pitt teams bolster ACC hopes, plan for future success
Panthers aim for strong finish, ACC hardware
This weekend was a mixed bag for Pitt Athletics. Volleyball clinched the ACC Coastal Division on Friday night, while football suffered a disappointing loss to Georgia Tech. But despite the setback for the Panthers, the ACC as a whole had a strong weekend. Eight ACC teams were ranked in the AP Top 25 after the weekend, with Clemson at No. 4 and Wake Forest at No. 18.
Pitt volleyball will enter the ACC Tournament next weekend as the No. 1 seed. After a slow start to the season, the Panthers have found their groove late in the year and have won 9 of their last 10 matches.
The Pitt football team will finish the regular season with a home game against Syracuse next Saturday. The Panthers will need a win to improve their bowl chances.
Looking ahead to next year
While the current season is still ongoing, Pitt Athletics is already looking ahead to next year. The football team will have a new starting quarterback in Kedon Slovis, who transferred from USC during the offseason.
The volleyball team will have to replace three graduating seniors, but it should be a strong contender for the ACC title once again.
The Pitt men's basketball team is expected to be one of the top teams in the ACC next year. The Panthers return two All-ACC players in John Hugley IV and Jamarius Burton.
