Italiano sees Bologna breakthrough after 2-0 victory
Bologna coach Thiago Motta hailed his team's “breakthrough” performance after they beat Sampdoria 2-0 away on Saturday for their second Serie A victory of the season.
“This is a breakthrough for us, a great result,” Motta told DAZN. “We played with courage and determination. We deserved this victory.”
Bologna had lost their previous four league games, but they bounced back in impressive fashion at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Motta's team took the lead in the 16th minute when Riccardo Orsolini fired home from close range. They doubled their advantage in the 59th minute through Musa Barrow, who tapped in after a good run by Orsolini.
Bologna held on comfortably for the win, which lifted them to 12th place in the Serie A standings with 12 points from 11 games.
“We had a difficult start to the season, but we never gave up,” Motta said. “We knew that we had the quality to do well, and we showed it today.”
“This victory will give us confidence going forward. We can now look to the future with optimism.”
