Late Fofana strike rescues point for Lyon at high-flying Lille in Ligue 1
Lyon battled back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at Lille on Sunday, with Seko Fofana scoring a late equaliser to deny the hosts a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 win.
Lille took the lead through Jonathan David in the first half, but Lyon improved after the break and Fofana's goal earned them a share of the spoils.
Fofana's late strike earns Lyon a point
Lyon had the better of the chances in the first half, but it was Lille who took the lead against the run of play when David finished off a counter-attack in the 28th minute.
The hosts had chances to extend their lead in the second half, but Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes made a number of good saves to keep his team in the game.
Lyon improved after the break and Fofana equalised in the 85th minute with a fine strike from the edge of the area.
Lille's winning run comes to an end
The draw brought an end to Lille's four-match winning run in Ligue 1.
The hosts remain in second place in the table, two points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Lyon are up to eighth place, eight points behind Lille.
Reaction from the managers
“We're disappointed not to have won the game,” said Lille coach Christophe Galtier.
“We had chances to kill the game off, but we didn't take them.
“Lyon are a good team and they made it difficult for us, but we should have won the game.”
“We're happy with the point,” said Lyon coach Peter Bosz.
“We didn't play well in the first half, but we improved in the second half and we deserved to get something from the game.
“Lille are a very good team, so this is a good point for us.”
