Warriors star scores 20 points after halftime
West Branch rallies to improve to 3-1
MAPLEWOOD, Ohio – West Branch and Hubbard combined for 28 points on Friday night, but it was a late rally and a huge effort from sophomore guard Tre Mulinix that proved to be the difference in the game.
Trailing 31-25 early in the fourth quarter, West Branch ran off nine straight points – all from Mulinix – to take the lead for good. Mulinix finished the game with 23 points, including 10 in the final quarter.
Mulinix's performance helped West Branch improve to 3-1 on the season. Hubbard fell to 0-4.
The game was tied 14-14 at halftime, but Hubbard took a 31-25 lead with a 9-0 run in the third quarter. West Branch finally broke the drought on a layup by Mulinix with 2:30 left in the third quarter.
Mulinix hit a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter and then tied the game with a layup about a minute later. He gave West Branch the lead for good with a free throw with 5:54 left in the game.
Mulinix also had five rebounds and three steals for West Branch. Junior forward Nate King added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors.
Hubbard was led by senior guard Domonic Pickens, who scored 15 points. Senior forward DeShaun Coleman added 10 points for the Eagles.
