OBS graduates are on stage at this year's Breeders' Cup in California
OBS Graduates Make their Mark at the Breeders' Cup
Ocala Breeders' Sales (OBS) graduates had a big showing at the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Del Mar in California. OBS has several standouts on the track throughout the two days of racing, including Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, Pizza Bianca and Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner, Corniche.
OBS has been a major force in the horse racing industry for decades, and many of the top horses have trained and sold at the Ocala, Florida, auction house. This year's Breeders' Cup was no exception, with OBS graduates winning several major races.
Corniche Wins the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile
One of the most impressive OBS graduates to race at the Breeders' Cup was Corniche, who won the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The son of Quality Road came into the race off a 5 1/2 length maiden win at Santa Anita Park and was the 9-5 morning line favorite. Corniche broke well and tracked the pace before taking the lead in the stretch. He drew off to win by 1 1/4 lengths.
Corniche is now one of the leading contenders for next year's Kentucky Derby. He has won two of his three career starts and has shown impressive speed and stamina.
Pizza Bianca Wins the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
Another OBS graduate who had a big day at the Breeders' Cup was Pizza Bianca, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The daughter of Fastnet Rock came into the race off a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland. She was the 8-5 morning line favorite in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and broke well and tracked the pace before taking the lead in the stretch. She drew off to win by 2 1/2 lengths.
Pizza Bianca is now one of the leading contenders for next year's Kentucky Oaks. She has won three of her four career starts and has shown impressive speed and stamina.
Other OBS Graduates Who Ran Well at the Breeders' Cup
In addition to Corniche and Pizza Bianca, several other OBS graduates ran well at the Breeders' Cup. These runners include:
- Gunite (third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile)
- Special Reserve (fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies)
- Chasing Time (sixth in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint)
- Obligatory (eighth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff)
The Breeders' Cup was a great showcase for OBS graduates, and several runners are expected to be major contenders in next year's Classics.
