Former World Champion Doubts Khyzhniak Transition to Pro Boxing

Recent National Team Captain Khyzhniak on Cusp of Joining Professional Ranks

Former world champion Viktor Postol doubts that Oleksandr Khyzhniak will be successful if he makes the switch to professional boxing. Khyzhniak, who is a two-time Ukrainian national champion and was the captain of the Ukrainian national team, is reportedly in talks with several promoters about a professional debut.

“I don't think he has the power to be a successful professional,” Postol said. “He's a good boxer, but he's not a big puncher. He's going to have to find a way to win fights without knocking people out, and I don't think he can do that.”

Khyzhniak has a record of 123-15 as an amateur, but he has never faced the level of competition that he will face in the professional ranks. Postol, who has fought some of the best fighters in the world, believes that Khyzhniak will be in for a rude awakening when he makes the switch to professional boxing.

“He's going to be fighting guys who are bigger, stronger, and more experienced than he is,” Postol said. “He's going to have to learn how to deal with that, and I don't think he's ready for that yet.”

Khyzhniak is scheduled to make his professional debut on March 4 in Las Vegas. He will be fighting on the undercard of a Top Rank Boxing card.

It remains to be seen whether or not Khyzhniak will be successful in the professional ranks. However, if Postol's assessment is correct, then Khyzhniak may have a difficult time making a name for himself in the sport.
