Purdue Rolls Past Grand Valley State in Exhibition

Purdue wasted no time shaking off the rust from an offseason by opening the game on a 22-4 run in the first eight minutes of play. Zach Edey scored 10 of the Boilermakers' first 12 points, giving Purdue an early double-digit lead. GVSU was able to cut the lead to 10 with 10 minutes to play in the first half, but Purdue went on a 20-4 run to take a 52-22 lead into the break.

Defense ruled the day, Purdue held GVSU to 33% from the field and forced 19 turnovers including 10 steals. Offensively Purdue shot over 50% from the field and were led by Zach Edey's 21 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman guard Fletcher Loyer added 18 points and 3 steals.

Purdue is back in action on Monday as they travel to Mackey Arena to host North Florida in their final exhibition of the season.

Edey Dominates Inside

Zach Edey was a force in the paint on Tuesday night, scoring a game-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. He also added 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Edey's size and strength were too much for GVSU to handle, as he was able to score easily in the post and draw fouls. Edey will be playing in his sophomore season for the Boilermakers and is expecting to have a breakout season. He is a potential lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Loyer Impresses

Freshman guard Fletcher Loyer made his Purdue debut on Tuesday night and showed why he was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. Loyer scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. He also added 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Loyer was impressive on both ends of the court, and he looks like he could be a valuable contributor for the Boilermakers this season.

Furst's Defense Leads

Junior forward Caleb Furst made his return to action for Purdue on Tuesday night after missing the 2022 season with a back injury. Furst did not start, but he played 21 minutes off the bench and made an impact on the defensive end. Furst had 2 blocks and 2 steals, and he helped to hold GVSU to just 33% shooting from the field. Furst will be expected to play a big role for the Boilermakers this season, and he showed on Tuesday night that he is ready to contribute.
