Alkmaar, Netherlands – AZ Alkmaar have pulled off a stunning upset by defeating Barcelona 3-1 in the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals, reaching the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.
** AZ, who had never previously advanced beyond the round of 16, took the lead in the first half through Dani de Wit, who headed home a cross from the left.
Barcelona equalised in the second half through Ansu Fati, but Alkmaar regained the lead just three minutes later when Soulyman Allouch converted a penalty.
Allouch then sealed the famous victory in the dying minutes with a superb solo effort, leaving Barcelona stunned.
It was a remarkable achievement for AZ, who have now beaten two of the tournament favorites on their way to the semi-finals.
They will now face either Chelsea or Real Madrid in the last four, with a place in the final at stake.
