Gibson grabs late Potters winner to extend unbeaten home run
Stoke City 1-0 QPR
Stoke City extended their unbeaten home run to 12 games as Jacob Brown's late strike earned a 1-0 win over QPR.
The Potters had to dig deep to secure the three points, with QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng making a string of fine saves to keep the hosts at bay.
But Brown's 89th-minute header proved to be the difference, as Stoke moved up to 11th in the Championship table.
The result was a bitter blow for QPR, who remain in the relegation zone.
Stoke made a lively start to the game and should have taken the lead in the 10th minute when Brown was played through on goal by Tyrese Campbell.
But the forward's shot was well saved by Dieng, who also denied Brown and Campbell in quick succession.
QPR gradually grew into the game and had their own chances to score, with Ilias Chair and Lyndon Dykes both going close.
But it was Stoke who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the second half, with Dieng producing a stunning save to keep out a header from Harry Souttar.
The hosts continued to press for a winner and were eventually rewarded when Brown headed home a cross from Tariqe Fosu in the 89th minute.
The goal sparked wild scenes of celebration at the bet365 Stadium as Stoke extended their unbeaten home run to 12 games.
Speaking after the game, Stoke manager Michael O'Neill praised his team's spirit and determination.
“We had to dig deep today, but we showed great character and resilience to get the win,” he said.
“QPR are a good side and they made it difficult for us, but we kept fighting until the end and we got our reward.
“This is a big win for us and it keeps our unbeaten home run going.
We're in a good position now and we're looking forward to the rest of the season.”
