Hartlepool United return to winning ways with victory over York City
Pools edge out play-off rivals York
Hartlepool United boosted their National League play-off hopes with a 1-0 victory over rivals York City at Victoria Park on Saturday.
Pools started brightly and took the lead in the 18th minute when Luke Molyneux’s shot from the edge of the area found the bottom corner of the net.
York improved after the break and came close to equalising on several occasions, but Hartlepool held on to secure a valuable three points.
Barnet held by Oldham in relegation battle
Barnet’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the English Football League suffered a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Oldham Athletic at The Hive.
The Bees took the lead in the 25th minute through Ephron Mason-Clark’s header, but Oldham levelled just before half-time through Bobby Grant’s penalty.
Both sides had chances to win the game in the second half, but neither could find a way through.
Conclusion
Hartlepool United’s victory over York City sees them move up to fifth in the National League table, just one point outside the play-off places.
Barnet remain in the relegation zone in 23rd place, but they are now just three points from safety.
