Trump says Haley, Pompeo will not join second administration
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not be joining President Donald Trump's second administration, Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday.
Trump said that he had offered Haley the position of ambassador to the United Nations again, but she declined. He also said that he had offered Pompeo the position of secretary of state again, but Pompeo also declined.
Trump did not give a reason for Haley's or Pompeo's decisions not to join his administration.
Haley and Pompeo were both prominent members of Trump's first administration. Haley served as U.N. ambassador from 2017 to 2018, and Pompeo served as secretary of state from 2018 to 2021.
Their decisions not to join Trump's second administration are a setback for the president, who is already facing a number of challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming midterm elections.
