Two Injured in the Accident
A car and a train engine collided at a railway crossing in Odesa Oblast, southern Ukraine, on Tuesday, resulting in two people being injured.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. local time at a crossing in the village of Lymanivka, near the city of Odesa.
According to preliminary reports, the car, a Volkswagen Passat, was attempting to cross the tracks when it was struck by the engine of a passing train.
- The two occupants of the car, a man and a woman, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
- The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
- The train engine was damaged in the collision but was able to continue its journey.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Railway crossings are often the site of accidents in Ukraine, where there are more than 20,000 such crossings.
In 2021, there were 138 accidents at railway crossings in Ukraine, resulting in 52 deaths and 67 injuries.
The Ukrainian government has been working to improve safety at railway crossings, including installing new warning systems and barriers.
