CU Cross Country Preview – at NCAA Mideast Regionals (Hosted by Connecticut College)
Colorado Teams Travel East
NCAA Regionals are the primary path for teams and individuals to advance to the NCAA Championships. The biggest teams are in the Southeast region but the Mideast region has some large and strong schools as well. The Buffs will travel east to Connecticut College for the NCAA Mideast Regionals. The national qualifying teams (top-2 teams automatically advance) haven't yet been identified but the Buffs should hold serve at home and advance to nationals.
The men's team has the 15th-best regional ranking, while the women's team is ranked 30th. Both teams are led by talented individuals who have the potential to finish in the top 10 and earn All-Region honors. Finishing in the top 25 at regionals earns All-Region honors.
Senior John Dressel is the Buffs' top-ranked runner on the men's side. He is ranked 21st in the region and has a personal best time of 30:35.33 in the 10,000 meters. 2nd year runner Aidan Ryan is ranked 94th following his 8k time of 24:20.6 at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on September 30th, 2023. Finishing in the top 10 at regionals earns All-Region honors.
Senior Abbey Glynn is the Buffs' top-ranked runner on the women's side. She is ranked 74th in the region and has a personal best time of 21:08.4 in the 6,000 meters. CU's highest ranked runner, Abby Nichols transferred from Campbell last year to Boulder. Ranked 55th in the region, she finished 28th overall at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational with a time of 20:44.1 in the 6k race on October 14th, 2023.
The NCAA Championships will be held on November 19th in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The top two teams from each region, as well as the top four individuals not on those teams, will advance to nationals. The Buffs should plan to be there.
