Top manager of Rostelecom detained in case of embezzlement of 180 million rubles
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the head of the mass market segment of Rostelecom, Pavel Kaplunov. He is suspected of embezzlement of 180 million rubles.
According to investigators, Kaplunov, together with other unidentified persons, stole money from Rostelecom in 2019. The investigation believes that the defendants used a fictitious contract for the purchase of equipment to withdraw funds from the company's accounts.
Kaplunov was detained on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He was charged under Part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale).
The head of Rostelecom, Mikhail Oseevsky, said that the company is assisting the investigation in every possible way and is interested in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We are shocked by the news of Pavel Kaplunov's detention. He has been a valuable member of our team for many years and has always been distinguished by his professionalism and dedication to his work,” Oseevsky said.
Kaplunov has been working at Rostelecom since 2015. Prior to that, he held leadership positions in MegaFon and VimpelCom.
