Hungary Coach Rushed to Hospital During Nations League Match
Assistant Takes Charge After Marco Rossi Collapses on Touchline
Incident Raises Concerns About Player and Staff Welfare
Hungary coach Marco Rossi was rushed to hospital during Tuesday's Nations League match against Italy after collapsing on the touchline.
Rossi, 58, received immediate medical attention from both the Hungarian and Italian medical teams before being taken to a nearby hospital.
The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) released a statement confirming the incident and stating that Rossi was “conscious and communicating” in hospital.
Assistant coach Zsolt Lőw took charge of the team for the remainder of the match, which Hungary lost 2-0 to the reigning European champions.
The incident has raised concerns about the welfare of players and staff in football, with some experts calling for a review of the current protocols in place.
In recent years, there have been a number of high-profile cases of players collapsing on the pitch, including Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and Fabrice Muamba's collapse in 2012.
These incidents have led to calls for more thorough medical screening of players and staff, as well as the provision of defibrillators and other emergency equipment at all matches.
The MLSZ said it would be conducting a full investigation into the incident and would be working with UEFA to review the current safety protocols.
Rossi has been in charge of the Hungarian national team since 2018 and has led them to their first major tournament in over 30 years at Euro 2020.
He is a popular figure in Hungary and his collapse has shocked the nation.
The Hungarian Football Federation has asked for privacy for Rossi and his family at this time.
