Metallurg Magnitogorsk parts ways with head coach Ravil Gusmanov
Metallurg Magnitogorsk has relieved head coach Ravil Gusmanov of his duties following a disappointing start to the 2022/23 season.
The Russian club sits 10th in the KHL's Eastern Conference with a record of 12-15-4 and are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
Gusmanov, 56, was appointed head coach in May 2021 after leading Metallurg's youth team to the Kharlamov Cup championship in 2021.
Metallurg has struggled to find consistency this season, winning just three of their last 10 games. They have also been plagued by injuries, with several key players missing significant time.
The club's management has decided to make a change behind the bench in an attempt to turn things around. Assistant coach Ilya Vorobyov will take over as interim head coach.
Vorobyov has been with Metallurg since 2019 and has a wealth of experience as a coach, having previously led SKA Saint Petersburg to the Gagarin Cup in 2017.
He will be tasked with getting Metallurg back into the playoff race and challenging for the KHL title.
