Trans-Baikal Resident Attends Rocket Launch from the Vostochny Cosmodrome

Resident of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Oksana Polozova, was one of the lucky few who witnessed the launch of the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb satellites from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

The launch took place on May 26, 2023, at 06:54 Moscow time (03:54 UTC). The Soyuz-2.1a rocket successfully lifted off from the launch pad and placed the satellites into orbit. This was the third launch of OneWeb satellites from the Vostochny Cosmodrome and brought the total number of OneWeb satellites in orbit to 216.

Polozova, a resident of the city of Chita, won a contest organized by the Roscosmos State Corporation for the right to attend the launch. She was one of 20 people selected from all over Russia to witness the historic event.

Polozova said she was “overwhelmed with emotions” when she saw the rocket launch. “It was an incredible sight,” she said. “The power and the beauty of it were just amazing.”

Polozova's trip to the Vostochny Cosmodrome was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. She said she was grateful to Roscosmos for giving her the opportunity to witness the launch and to learn more about Russia's space program.

The launch of the Soyuz-2.1a rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb satellites was a significant event for Russia's space program. It was the first time that the Soyuz-2.1a rocket was used to launch OneWeb satellites, and it was the largest number of satellites ever launched on a single Soyuz rocket.

The successful launch of the Soyuz-2.1a rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb satellites is a testament to the skill and expertise of the Russian space industry. It is also a sign of Russia's commitment to developing its space program and to playing a leading role in the global space race.
