Valery Karpin appointed head coach of Russian national football team
Karpin will combine the role with his current position as head coach of FC Rostov
The appointment was made by the Russian Football Union (RFU) on July 23, 2021
Valery Karpin has been appointed as the new head coach of the Russian national football team. The 52-year-old will combine the role with his current position as head coach of FC Rostov.
Karpin has signed a two-year contract with the RFU and will take charge of the national team for the first time in September 2021.
Karpin is a former Russian international and has had a successful career as a manager. He led FC Rostov to the Russian Premier League title in 2014 and has also managed Spartak Moscow and Mallorca.
The RFU said in a statement: “We are delighted to have appointed Valery Karpin as the new head coach of the Russian national football team. He is a highly experienced and successful manager who we believe will be able to lead the team to success.”
Karpin said: “I am honored to have been appointed as head coach of the Russian national football team. It is a great responsibility, but I am confident that we can achieve success together.”
The Russian national football team is currently ranked 38th in the FIFA World Rankings. They will be hoping to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
