Netherlands drops leaders ahead of Nations League Finals
De Ligt, van Dijk, and Depay out after disappointing draw with Poland
Wijnaldum, Babel, and Strootman also miss out on Netherlands' Nations League Finals squad due to injuries
Netherlands coach Koeman has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming Nations League Finals and it is without some of his biggest stars. Matthijs de Ligt, Virgil van Dijk, and Memphis Depay have all been dropped after a disappointing draw with Poland in their final warm-up game.
De Ligt has been struggling with a groin injury, while van Dijk is still recovering from a knee problem. Depay is also out with a hamstring injury. Georginio Wijnaldum, Ryan Babel, and Kevin Strootman are also missing out due to injuries.
The Netherlands will be hoping to win the Nations League Finals without their star players. They will face England in the semi-finals on June 6, with the winner of that match facing either Portugal or Switzerland in the final on June 9.
Koeman has called up some inexperienced players to replace his injured stars, including 19-year-old defender Jurriën Timber and 20-year-old midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. It remains to be seen whether these young players can step up and help the Netherlands win the Nations League Finals.
Netherlands' Nations League Finals squad
- Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen, Tim Krul, Marco Bizot
- Defenders: Nathan Aké, Stefan de Vrij, Jurriën Timber, Daley Blind, Denzel Dumfries, Patrick van Aanholt
- Midfielders: Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek, Marten de Roon, Ryan Gravenberch, Davy Klaassen
- Forwards: Steven Bergwijn, Quincy Promes, Wout Weghorst, Luuk de Jong, Donyell Malen
Conclusion
The Netherlands will be hoping to win the Nations League Finals without their star players. It will be a tough task, but they have a talented squad and they will be confident of their chances.
